Jakarta, Psmnews- West Papua National Committee (KNPB) filed a pretrial lawsuit against the Mimika Resort Police Chief Adjunct Senior Commissioner Agung Marlianto to the Timika District Court (PN). The lawsuit was filed through the Coalition for Law and Human Rights Enforcement for Papua.

The pretrial lawsuit was filed regarding the arrest, determination of the suspect, and the detention of three KNPB activists related to alleged cases of treason, as well as searches and seizures that were deemed invalid in the KNPB Timika secretariat which occurred since 31 December 2018.

"This afternoon, the Association of Human Rights Advocates (PAHAM) of Papua, the Papuan Legal Aid Institute (LBH), and the Justice, Peace and Integrity of Creation (KPKC) Indonesian Christian Church Synod (GKI) registered a pretrial lawsuit to the Timika City District Court," said a member of the Law and Human Rights Enforcement Coalition for Papua Veronica Koman through his written statement on Thursday (1/17).

He explained, his party demanded that Agung as Mimika Regional Police Chief immediately release three KNPB activists who were suspected of treason because they were determined through illegal legal processes.

According to him, Agung had to pay material compensation of Rp.126,538 Million rupiah ( $9.000) and ordered all Mimika Regional Police officers to immediately vacate the KNPB Timika secretariat which had been illegally confiscated.

Veronica said, she also urged Agung to apologize openly to the KNPB through mass media in Mimika Regency and Papua Province for three consecutive days for the actions taken.

"The purpose of this lawsuit is to restore the position, dignity and dignity of the KNPB which has been violated unconstitutionally by the Mimika Regional Police and its ranks," he said.

Earlier, the Mimika Regional Police appointed three administrators and KNPB members as suspects in treason cases. The case of the three suspects is now transferred to the Papua Regional Police to be processed at Ditreskrimum.

"It is true that there are three suspects in treason cases whose process was delegated to the Papua Regional Police to be followed up," Papua Police Public Relations Head Ahmad Kamal said, Antara reported on Tuesday (1/8).

He said the three suspects had the initials SA, MD, and VG. The three KNPB members before being taken to the Papua Regional Police were first secured at the Mimika Police Headquarters in Timika.
